After a mad dash through customs at Heathrow and an almost-missed small plane ride, we made it to Edinburgh. A short trek from the airport later we arrived in the beautiful Grassmarket area of Edinburgh’s old town. Thankfully the area stays true to its name and we arrived in time to explore the market and buy a delicious and much needed sausage roll. We met up with our host and quickly got the lay of the land before making our way up the beautiful four floor spiral staircase. The apartment was beautifully furnished and its location in the city is the perfect place to base up and explore all that Edinburgh has to offer.
The living space is beautiful and cozy with all of the Scottish warmth you could ask for. The best part of the place is the unobstructed view of Edinburgh castle, which in our opinion, is the best view in the whole city.
You can start your day with a short walk to Edinburgh Larder for a full Scottish breakfast. Pop out of breakfast and you are right on the royal mile, Edinburgh’s most popular street. Also a short walk from the apartment is Victoria street, Holyrood Abbey, Greyfriars Kirkyard, and of course Edinburgh Castle. Basically… this spot is the place to be!
After a long day of walking the royal mile, climbing the castle, and filling your stomach with as many Scottish foods as possible (what’s up, Haggis?) the best part of our trip to Edinburgh was ending the night on the couch, curled up with a nice cup of tea with milk and a tunnock’s tea cake (all provided by our lovely host) and just gazing out at the castle all lit up at night standing perfect on the hill.
